Cutting edge treatments for acute and chronic upper extremity injuries
Dr. Niedermeier obtained his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine at the world-renowned Wexner Medical Center where he also completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. He then completed his fellowship training, specializing in hand/wrist, elbow, shoulder, and peripheral nerve surgery, at the OrthoCarolina Hand Center in Charlotte, North Carolina where he worked closely with leaders in the field.
Peripheral nerve surgeries for the upper extremity focus on treating conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, and traumatic nerve injuries. These procedures aim to relieve pain, restore sensation, and improve hand and arm function.
Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) repair and reconstruction address injuries to the ligament on the inner side of the elbow, commonly seen in athletes, especially pitchers. Repair is performed for minor tears, while reconstruction, often called Tommy John surgery, uses a tendon graft to restore stability and function, enabling a return to sports and activities.
